Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Cake

We are huge fans of chocolate and peanut butter in our house. My husband and I have always loved chocolate and peanut butter and we have passed that love down to our son as well. Last week we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary and my son’s 3rd birthday. I decided I wanted to make a fantastic cake to celebrate the occasions.
When I asked my son what kind of cake he wanted he told me that he wanted a chocolate and peanut butter cake. He got really excited when I asked if he wanted Reese’s on top. We are also big fans of peanut butter pie and I always make it for my husband’s birthday. In fact peanut butter pie is one of the only type of pies that my husband will eat. To combine my son’s request for chocolate peanut butter cake with my one of my husband’s favorite desserts for our anniversary, I decided to combine chocolate cake with peanut butter pie.

This Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Cake combines the best of both worlds, chocolate peanut butter cake with peanut butter pie. This cake was so delicious and we all loved the peanut butter pie filling in the middle. This cake is a layer cake with two layers of chocolate cake with the peanut butter pie filling in the middle. The cake is then topped with a chocolate ganache and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Seriously you cannot get any better than this cake, it had to be one of the most delicious cakes I have ever made. This is the perfect cake for any chocolate peanut butter lover. My son and husband both loved the cake and it was perfect for celebrating my son’s birthday and our wedding anniversary. I hope you enjoy this fantastic cake. I can’t wait to make it again.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Cake

Ingredients

  • For the cake layers:
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix the ingredients on the back of the box.
  • For the peanut butter pie layer:
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 can (14 ounce can) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tub (8 ounces) Cool Whip, thawed
  • For the topping:
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • Miniature Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cake according to the directions on the box. Follow the directions for making two layers. Allow the two layers to completely cool.
  2. Once the cake is cooled, prepare the peanut butter pie layer. In a large bowl combine the cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. Beat on medium until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. Gently fold in the Cool Whip until fully combined.
  3. To assemble the cake, lay one layer of the chocolate cake on a plate. Spread the peanut butter pie filling on top of the cake. Then place the second layer of chocolate cake on top. Cover and refrigerate until the peanut butter pie filling is set, at least an hour.
  4. Once the peanut butter pie filling is set make the ganache. For the ganache, place the semi sweet chocolate chips into a medium sized bowl. In a small saucepan, pour the cream in and bring it to a boil. As soon as the cream boils up to the top of the pan, quickly remove it from the heat and pour it over the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the ganache on top of the cake and make sure that it drizzles down the sides. If desired top with Peanut Butter Cups. Refrigerate for a few minutes until the ganache is set. Keep the cake refrigerated.
