Apple Cinnamon Rolls

When I think of fall one of the first foods that I think of are apples. Now that fall has rolled around I have been trying to make a bunch of apple flavored foods and desserts. I thought that it would be great to combine apples with one of my favorite breakfasts/desserts, cinnamon rolls. This is a great combination because apple and cinnamon go well together and you can’t go wrong with the addition of apple flavor to cinnamon rolls.
While I love cinnamon rolls, I also like things that are easy to make. I especially don’t like working with yeast because I am impatient and it takes so long. These cinnamon rolls are great because they can be made up quickly without yeast. I love having the same great treat without all the work. I then added apple pie filling and combined with brown sugar and cinnamon to get these great cinnamon rolls.

These Apple Cinnamon Rolls were so delicious and are the perfect treat for breakfast or dessert. The cinnamon rolls are made easily with a no yeast dough and the filling combines apple pie filling with brown sugar and cinnamon to create a delicious apple cinnamon roll. To top the cinnamon roll off is a caramel vanilla glaze frosting that goes great with the apple cinnamon flavor. We loved these and they were quickly devoured. They are perfect for fall or for any time of the year and I hope you enjoy them!

Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

  • Dough
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup milk (I used soy milk)
  • Filling and Topping
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 can (21 ounces) apple pie filling
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 container (16 ounces) vanilla frosting
  • 2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
  2. In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the 3 tablespoons of softened butter and mix until it is well combined. Then add in the milk and stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (about 10x14 in size) until the dough is about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Chop up the apples contained in the can of apple pie filling into smaller pieces. Then evenly spread the filling on top of the dough.
  5. In a small bowl combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Evenly sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon topping on top of the apple pie filling.
  6. Gently roll up the dough starting from the shortest side. Cut off each end and then evenly slice the roll into about 9 slices. Place the rolls into a greased pie pan or an 8x8 pan. Drizzle the 2 tablespoons of melted butter on top of the cinnamon rolls. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Stir in the caramel ice cream topping into the container of vanilla frosting. Microwave the frosting for about 20-30 seconds to create a glaze. Then drizzle the frosting on top of the cinnamon rolls. Store the rolls in a sealed container.
