Gucci F/W 2011.2012 Milan

Well, its just like they said: You never really feel that youve landed in Milan until youre at a Gucci show. This season Frida Giannini presents us with a fusion of the 1970s inspired collection with the lurid palette calling to mind the good taste/bad taste Marc Jacobs offered at Loius Vuitton for S/S 11. Gangster mafia ladies. Technicolor pimp done with a YSL flair. I kept thinking of Bonnie and Clyde through an acid fuelled prism of Jimi Hendrix. A pistol would have been the perfect accessory for many of these looks. The girls sure looked fierce. It might not be the ground-breaking collection that everybody was looking for; in fact I guess we never really look to Gucci for anything avant garde, but more for a fun, sexy, luxury infused statement collection. And even though its a tad uneven and the more-is-more tacky/luxe aesthetic does take a bit of digesting, I like the collection for its daring colors, especially considering that this is a winter collection. It also indicates that colored fur might continue to be the big thing for next winter!
