DROMe Architectural Summer

Marianna Rosati, designer for DROMe, takes us on a journey of deconstructionism for the Spring Summer 2015 Collection. Inspired by the famous architect Frank Gehry, Rosati takes us to three destinations, highlighting three symbolic buildings. The journey’s first stop is in Bilbao at the Guggenheim Museum, then makes its way to Prague at “The Dancing House” of the Czech Republic and takes a round trip to New York stopping at the Beekman Tower in Lower Manhattan.

DROMe experimented and developed new construction materials and techniques for the Spring Summer 2015 Collection. The unique factor about the DROMe collections is that leather is the only material used. There are twelve different kinds of leather used in the Spring Summer 2015 Collection which are Plonge, Light Nappa, Super silky Nappa, Mirror Nappa, Sporty Calf, Paper Nappa, Wave printed Nappa, Pinstripe Nappa, Stretch Plonge, Suede, Silky light, and Nappa-Denim bonded. DROMe seeks new material associations similar to their muse architect Frank Gehry.

There were many textile techniques used in this collection. The mirror-shine-treatment and laser cutting of the new leather recalls the titanium reflective surfaces of the Guggenheim Museum. Many shapes can be found within the design of the building. One coat from the collection had different shapes and color blocking contributing to the same effect of the building. Window-like perforations, sheer fabrics, net-like micro rectangular and hexagonal geometric holes, and wave patterns create see-through effects. “The Dancing House” of the Czech Republic is noticed, as silhouettes are longer. One jacket is shaped like an hourglass, similar to the front of the building, and has laser-cut window-like perforations. Razor cutting techniques and aerodynamic shapes allow for multi-purpose pieces.

The sun glaring off of the Beekman Tower in Lower Manhattan inspired the gold mirror-like reflective effects. The Beekman Tower also inspired the long silhouettes and window-like perforations of the collection. White is the dominant color throughout the collection, which connects with black often. The other colors for this collection are light, with shades similar to sorbets. The sorbet colors are called gum rose, fresh mint green, lemongrass yellow, azure and powder pink, which connect with intense shades of playground green and orange.
