The Decorista’s guide to a perfect weekend in NYC

The other day as I was getting back from my travels and reading all of my comments and emails, it hit me that so many of you heed my advice on so many things. At times, maybe because its the internet, I forget that what I share actually makes an impact in your everyday life. I’ve seen so many of you on instagram show me your fabulous homes and shopping steals and I truly am so proud. So, today I’m posting a little something for all of you who have emailed me about visiting New York soon and you want to know what to do. I’ll give you a little list of what to do, from a decorista point of view…

1. Hotels:

(downtown) Mondrian Soho- This is probably my favorite place to stay because its right in the heart of Soho shopping. The entire hotel is gorgeously decorated in blues, it sort of reminds me of Miami. The restaurant and bar are very hip and the front courtyard feels like you are walking in Alice in Wonderland.

(uptown) Renaissance Hotel 57- This is where I stayed on my last trip and I loved it. How many times do you get a terrace in NYC? So, you must make sure to get one of those. The decor is cool, and its very quiet. It’s centrally located so if you want to be walking distance to Central Park, this is a great choice. The rooftop is gorgeous too. The cool thing about this place too is if you are wanting to do all the touristy things (ie. Sex & the city tour, Moma museum, Statue of Liberty ferry, Top of the Rock, etc) the hotel has a Best of NYC package so you can easily get to what you need to do. When I stayed I jetted to all the museums which I had been wanting to do.

2. Restaurants: This is such a hard one to give an opinion on, but keep in mind that I care so much about the decor of a space & if you do too, then you will LOVE these places…

(uptown) Harlow NYC: I felt like I walked into a movie from Hollywood in the 50′s it’s THAT glamorous. I am partial to the oyster bar and bubbly. It’s such a great spot, especially if you are in that area.

(downtown) Bobo NYC: Oh, the decor is so cool and swanky and the drinks and super delicious. So is the food. There are a few levels and private areas, they even have a gorgeous outdoor dining situation. You will always get cool people around here so its a fun vibe too.

3. Shopping: Again, this depends on what you like, but if you want to shop for vintage finds, fun items and unique things, these are my picks and places I wouldn’t miss.

(uptown) A second chance- Ladies, I’m telling you this is THE best spot for vintage fashion luxury. The best vintage Chanel and Louboutins in the city and its a glam little boutique to boot. I love the decor and the displays and the hallway doors are pink! It’s such a fun place to experience.

(downtown) ABC home- It’s a pretty popular place to go, but its really a decor wonderland. It’s a bit expensive so take a ton pics to bring home for inspiration.

(uptown) Henri Bendel- You just have to go. It’s the most fun department store ever. You will find all the fashion & beauty your heart desires. The best part is that they have the most unique and fun, one of kind things that no one else has and you can only get in New York. Go.

Housing Works- These are the best thrift stores all over the city. You are sure to find some fun fashion & unique decor items you can take home with you. It’s all for a great cause too. I’m obsessed.

4. Attractions:

(uptown) Central park Bethesda Fountain- just do it. Make sure to walk under the bridge and listen to whoever is singing, they are sure to give you goosebumps. Then walk over to the Loeb. Killer view.

(downtown) The High Line- if its pretty out, walk it. There are so many cool things to see. In the summer, they play movies at night. You can end up in TriBeCa and walk around & shop. Then go to The Standard Hotel for a beer in the BierGarten.

5. Landmarks:

(downtown) If you MUST do the 9/11 Memorial, Here is how I do it. Go to the W hotel downtown, walk to the elevator and take it straight to the top floor lounge. Grab a cocktail at the outdoor bar and look over the entire thing from a birds eye view. It’s VERY cool and it beats waiting in line and being around all the crowds. You get just as cool of an experience.

(uptown) If you MUST do Times Square, go to the Renaissance Hotel TS and hit up the R lounge. It’s got such a swanky decor vibe and a 180 view of all thats happening in the heart of Times Square. Grab an appetizer and a cocktail and just feel the energy. This is my secret place to take visitors. Trust me you will love it.

So, there you go. These are literally some of my favorite places to go and things to do. I’ll expand on this list soon. If you have any more questions on what to do, leave me a comment down below and I’ll get to it. Love you guys! xo
