Leaving Summer

It's not often that the leaves start to turn and fall from the trees and I feel ready to embrace the change of seasons as much as I currently do. I think perhaps this appreciation for change is a result of experiencing one of the best summers weather-wise that I can remember. I'm slightly worried that Zachary might think he's been born into a sub-tropical country, but I'm sure Mother Nature will be quick to nip this idea in the bud once winter sets in!

Although the weather has undoubtedly cooled, it's not quite cold enough to justify breaking out the full winter garb, instead I intend to make the most of the next few weeks where it's warm enough to leave the house in wraps and lightweight cover-ups instead. My cape is from New Look and I've been wearing it non-stop recently, the colours look wonderful against the background of autumn foliage and sunlight and it's surprisingly snug once you're wrapped up in it!

My jumper is an ideal trans-seasonal piece, strictly part of Phase Eight's SS14 collection; it's warm enough to layer over vests without causing you to swelter in the mid-October sun. I've teamed it with another Phase Eight piece, my necklace was a 30th birthday present from my lovely cousin and it complements the theme perfectly with its tree trunk inspired design. I hate to play favourites with my handbags, but my Miu Miu butterfly bow satchel is definitely up near the top, it was the first designer bag I bought and I love it just as much now as I did all those years ago.

My Next boots are a very recent addition to my footwear collection, since giving birth I've struggled to find shoes that are comfortable. Many of my shoes, sandals and boots no longer fit (sob!), I'm hoping eventually my feet will go back to their pre-pregnancy state, but sadly there's no guarantee. Rather than sulking, I saw it as an opportunity to invest in a new season style and after much browsing I chose this pair of brown ankle boots from Next.

Midway through taking these photos the baby monitor alerted me to the sound of a baby waking. I decided he clearly wanted to wake up early from his nap in order to join in and experience his first photo shoot, so I happily obliged. Zach is wearing leggings from Tesco and a blue striped top from Mothercare.

Since having a baby I've made it one of my aims to start taking more outfit photos again. It's a bit of a challenge and most of them will have to be taken around the house, but if you can ignore the repeat locations, then hopefully they'll be worth viewing - I shall do my best and thanks for bearing with me!
