Ashy’s Desert Nomad Bedroom Makeover Reveal

I am seriously so excited to show you guys how my 16 yr old SIL Ashy’s room makeover turned out! I am SO in love with it I want to move in and camp on the green couch!!

A really cool thing about this room is how little we spent on it. The entire room makeover cost less than $1500. Daaaang!! (It doesn’t hurt that all of the amazing furniture was thrifted.)

There were a few challenges that we faced in this room. The biggest one being that it needed to be functional for as many teenagers as possible. It is a really huge room, but there was a lot of wasted space. Because the room was so big, and there was only one light source, we needed to brighten it up. Also, closet doors. When we replaced the flooring a few years ago we refused to put the bi-fold doors back on because they were just too ug. So we needed to come up with a solution for that.

The entire inspiration for this space came from this piece of art, and using Sherwin-William’s Chip It! tool to make it my own.

Let me remind you what it looked like before we got started.

This is what it looks like now:

So good right!?

If you have a room that only has one light source and constantly feels dark, the best thing that you can do for your space is to paint the walls white. It instantly changes everything! In this room we painted everything my favorite shade of white (Sherwin-Williams High Hide White) and DIYed temporary fabric wallpaper for an accent (tutorial here)

I also added a really simple (and perfectly retro) painted diamond to break up the giant white wall where the bed used to be.

I have so many favorite things in this room, I don’t even know what to start talking about first!!

Lets start with the double bypass sliding closet doors. We loved the lightweight sliding barn door that we did in my MIL’s office so much that we decided it just needed to happen again in here.

The rope pattern was totally inspired by my 4th grade teacher (thanks Ms. Wheeler!) do you guys remember doing projects like this when you were little? Instead of doing a large install on a wall, I thought it would be cool to try it on something different! The rope is just basic clothesline from Home Depot that I coffee stained. A 2 part tutorial is coming for these doors.

The vintage green velvet couch is such a show stopper. I found it for $65 and it is in pristine condition. We gave it a good cleaning and took off the skirt to update it a little. All of the art on this wall is thrifted. The DIY copper chandelier was a really fun project, and I am itching to make another one!

I found the white resin deer head at a local store called Urban Renewal. If you are ever in St. George you should stop by, the always have the coolest vintage finds!

The coat rack was a last minute project and took just a few minutes (tutorial coming!). I love it when things are pretty and functional!

The brushed brass and Lucite table was a $12 Restore find that I have been hoarding for a year, waiting for just the right spot.

I love the sort of jumbled mess of the hanging planter and cafe lights (tutorial here!)

The copper peg shelves are exactly what the dr. ordered for this side of the room. They are sturdy and functional but visually don’t take up a lot of attention.

Painting the inside of your closet (like we did with Sherwin-Williams Naval) is a easy way to get a lot of bang for your buck. I think I need to do this to all of the closets in my house, so that they will look pretty enough to keep clean!

(Isn’t my sister the cutest painter?)

So what do you think!? I am pretty impressed that the design for this room stayed exactly with what I had planned. That doesn’t happen very often (Nugget I am looking at you.) I also love that it is super attainable. Its pretty awesome what a little paint and a few thrifted finds and plants can do to a room.

Massive thank you to my friends at Sherwin-Williams for sponsoring this project!!
