Rock Hounders Dream Sale

I usually go estate sale-ing on weekends whether its alone or in the company of a friend. But I had a terrible migraine last night and woke up still dizzy and with some residual aching. I had seen a sale that advertised gems and minerals last night but the way I woke up this morning, I nearly didn't go. I went to get a coffee down the street and nearly turned around and went back home. The sale was at least 30 minutes away but I had a feeling I would find something good. I decided to tough it out and make the trek. There was hardly anyone there and there and I seemed to be the only one interested in the crystals. Another score for me!

I got a few boxes of turquoise, clear quartz and tumbled smokey quartz. Under all the sliced and rough turquoise I found a bunch of cabs! And I won't even say how much I paid because you couldn't believe me. And I got jars and jars of opal as well as some fire opal. Nearly every single piece has fire in it. I was just in a state of shock. I probably would have paid a lot for just a single piece at a gem show. I feel so lucky to have found this little gem of a sale today.

The lovely lady and gentleman who were holding the sale told me the history behind the crystals which made them even more special. Since I am a rock-hound too I can definitely appreciate the hard work that went into getting these out of the ground, and to think of all the fun adventures and road trips that were had to get these makes me wish I knew these people when they were alive. Since I no longer have a car that will get me to the mines around here its been awhile since I've been able to dig for crystals. This was like getting all the reward without the hours of digging in the hot sun. For those of you who dont know this is my second haul of crystals that were mined by the owner. The first one was free and I never thought I would come across and even more amazing collection. I am so thrilled to own these and I am sure you will see these in some jewelry in the near future!

Its really hard to photograph opals. In the first jar with the white rocks, there is fire and veins full of opal in almost every piece. It was really cloudy this morning so you can only really tell in the lower left hand side. This tiny jar above has swirling cosmos of glittering, holographic magic in every piece. I could stare at it for hours. To think this all came out of the ground is so amazing. Hard to grasp really. I cant wait to really get a closer look at everything and perhaps I can take out my macro lens and try to properly photograph these gorgeous opals!
