TRAVEL&DESIGN - SKYROS

Hi Guys I'm very excited to introduce you to my new Travel&Designsection which will focus on hotel design, travel and amazing destinations. My first stop was the Greek islandof Skyroswith its 365 churches (one for every day of the year), it is the largest of the Sporades Islands with a population of just 3000. It's not a huge tourist destination, which makes it the perfect holiday location for someone who wants to experience ”the road less travelled”. While you walk through Skyros, the main village of island and its groups of white, cubic houses and narrow streets, you can blissfully forget the chaotic buzz of city life. I stayed at TR2 ROOMS , one of the largest guesthouses inSkyros, with a strong identity and culture, which blends ethnic and modern minimal aesthetics. Anold house with a strong traditional feel, TR2 demonstrates perfectly how to combinetraditional and contemporary elements to create something uniqueand interesting.. The house has a very cosy atmosphere which immediately makes you feel like you are experiencing the authenticisland lifestyle. All the sights, perfumes, illumination and sounds have aspecial regenerative quality which all travellers will appreciate. Georgios C Carabellas is the landlord, a true aestheticand designer, with a special taste for modern luxury, in fact throughout the house you can find many examples of someof his original design pieces.Next stop?......Stay tuned:) If you have any suggestions or feedback, please leave a comment. Ciao ragazzi è con entusiasmo che vi presento Travel&Design, una nuova rubrica in cui vi mostrerò e racconterò location e hotel dal design incredibile e fuori dall'immaginario comune.
Prima tappa , Skyros, che con le sue 365 chiese (una per ogni giorno dell'anno) fa parte delle isole Sporadi. Nonostante sia la piu grande, è una delle poche isole rimasta incontaminata dal turismo di massa, ed è un ottima location per chi vuole vivere una realtà completamente diversa da quella a cui siamo abituati. Il paese principale, Skyros, fu costruito dietro il monte per nascondersi dagli attacchi dei pirati, un insieme di case piccole bianche, con vie strette, percorribile solo a piedi, vi faranno dimenticare il traffico a cui siamo abituati, regalandovi una sensazione di pace.. Ho avuto la fortuna di alloggiare a TR2 the rooms, una delle piu grandi case del villaggio, con una forte identità e cultura, passando dallo stile etnico a quello moderno minimal. Modernità, tradizione, innovazioni e lusso sono gli elementi che rappresentano al meglio l'arredamento e il design della struttura. Sebbene TR2 sia una casa ultracentenaria ristrutturata, conserva lo spirito tradizionalista dimostrando come tradizione e contemporaneità possano convivere creando un mix and match interessante con un stile unico e ben amalgamato. Nonostante il design minimal e a tratti spoglio, la casa è molto accogliente e da subito ci si immerge nel lifestyle isolano, dimenticandosi della realtà quotidiana, luci, suoni, profumi e odori hanno qualcosa di diverso qui, quasi rigenerante. Fautore di questa meraviglia, Georgios C Carabellas, un vero esteta, oltre che designer, con un gusto innato per il lusso moderno, infatti la struttura è stata arredata anche con alcuni suoi pezzi di design, disegnati e creati da lui stesso. Spero di riuscire a trasmettervi un po dell'atmosfera davvero unica attraverso questi semplici scatti.
