PT: Iridescent & Oil Slick

My favorite trend by far has to be Iridescent and Oil Slick Hues. They’re versatile, futuristic and beautiful to the touch.

Below are a few ways I would style this trend, dressed up or down!

Iridescent

Iridescent hues show a light spectrum of rainbow-like colors that shimmer and alter as the observer’s position changes.

•Dressed Down•

A pastel color scheme would work well with iridescent hues because as light hits the surface of this Silver Iridescent Motel Rucksack ($49), rays of shimmery lavender, pale yellow and blue are shown.

A major plus for this look is that pastels were THE trend of Spring/Summer 2013 and will continue to be this year, so pairing both = #winning.

You could also pair Iridescent hues with tie-dye prints in pastel, much like the Amazon’s circle tie-dye iPhone Case ($25) above and the semi-sheer ModCloth’s Pastel Dyed World Knit Sweater ($35).

Great additions to your Spring wardrobe, don’t you agree?

Oil Slick

Oil Slick hues are very similar to Iridescent, but much darker and grungier looking.

You can compare the hue to actual oil discharge on a waters surface, but in a more fashionable sense… if that makes any sense. hehe

•Dressy/Casual•

The simplest way to style oil slick is by pairing like colors. When I saw orange, blues and emerald green on my H&M Oil Slick Clutch/Crossbody (similar one here), I paired it with a vibrant orange top and a pair of form fitting stretch denim in the color teal-green.

Adding gold accented booties gives the clutch that edge that it needs.

Keep it flirty by adding romantic curls to your hair to soften the look (Remington Wand $22).

I rolled a multi-colored striped scarf into a bracelet, which brought the outfit’s colors and overall theme together perfectly.

•Dressy/Casual (2)•

You could also try matching an Oil Slick Hue with another. In this case I chose Milly Iridescent Leather Front Knitted Sweater ($575) and Jeffrey Campbell The Pegasus Shoe in Black Oil Spill ($164/$89)

Gold and silver accents make great pieces to complement the luminosity of the hue.

For eye make-up, stray away from the bold and go minimalistic with Up the Amp Lipstick by Mac ($15) by applying lightly with your fingers. Also, try applying a rose/nude shade from the Naked3 Palette ($52) to your lid and a slightly darker shade to your crease and underneath your waterline for depth.

This will give you an effortless and flawless finish without going overboard.
