Rock Painting #195

I had fun painting rocks! They are fun to paint and you can paint just about anything on the rocks. By studying the shape of the rock you can imagine all sorts of things that the rock could become.

You can use rocks as inexpensive indoor or outdoor decorations. I had decided to use my painted rocks in my fairy garden. I have been slowly working on putting together my fairy garden. I still need more plants and other things, but I am having fun with it.

I purchased a kit with everything in it to paint the rocks this time. If I decide to paint more I will just finds rocks and use acrylic paints.

You can purchase rocks at craft stores, but you can easily find great rocks to use by just going outside and looking for them.

Rocks need to be primed before you paint your design on them. To prime the rock you just cover them with a thick coat of white paint and allow them to dry completely.

Next, paint whatever you want on the rock. Use acrylic paints and different size brushes. You can use toothpicks to put on small details. You can draw on the rock with a pencil first if you want the design on there first and then just fill in the details with paint.

After you have painted the rocks let them dry thoroughly.

If you are going to put them outdoors you need to cover them with a clear acrylic glaze. You should probably use the liquid form on rocks. I used the spray and it lightened some of my paint.

After they are dry use them to decorate something.

Here is my updated fairy garden.

Rock painting is a great activity for kids. I think I will let my youngest grandson paint some of the rocks. He loves doing things like this.
