STYLE | MORE BLUE, PLEASE

I never wear blue. I don’t know what it is, but I never buy any of the blue things. I buy purple and burgundy, and I wear a lot of bright patterns (I’m like, on the cusp of doing the most in the bright patterns department). But I don’t wear blue. So I have been forcing myself to “buy it in blue” whenever I get the opportunity.

Sometimes it pays to step out of your comfort zone, huh? I honestly wouldn’t have purchased this skirt from Zara if I wasn’t trying to get more blue in my closet, and that would have been so unfortunate. It’s one of the best things I’ve purchased this Fall because it’s so versatile. It’s an interesting-looking piece, but basic enough to go with a lot of what I already own. And I was pleasantly surprised that it fit perfectly! No alterations needed! The only thing I will end up doing is creating a split in the back; the skirt is really narrow at the legs, and that makes it a bit difficult to walk in. I look like the Little Engine That Could while I’m walking down the street in this thing. Or like one of those tiny dogs that have really short strides. Not really what I’m going for.

Oh, and this sweater…

Perfectly warm, and colorful in the best of ways: this sweater matches three skirts in my closet. I mean, I could wear it all the time, and no one would ever know. It was definitely worth the investment (and it most certainly was an investment, even on sale!) I always tell people that if I had real money, I would just buy all my clothes from Zara and J.Crew and be perfectly happy. They just get me, you know?

To tie the look together, I wore navy blue Nine West pumps with a cute round toe. They aren’t in these photos though because they kinda live underneath my desk at work. You know those days when you have an emergency meeting and want to look a little more polished? Well on those days, I put on the heels at my desk. I used to keep some green ones at work (they were an emergency purchase), but they never went with anything I was wearing. So now the navy ones are there and I feel more at ease knowing that at a moment’s notice I can be a few inches taller…(bonus points for also looking a little more professional).

It’s been relatively “warm” in NYC, so I’ve gotten away with wearing sweaters and skirts sans tights (I HATE tights), but that’s not going to last. I think we’ve seen the last of the 60-degree-days. So I’ll be on Pinterest searching for ways to stay warm without tights. I don’t think I’ll be successful…bleh.
