“Le Fattoria Didattiche” are the Italian words for “The Teaching Farms”, which are basically farms in the Italian countryside in every single area of Italy, that offer families the chance to have a behind the scenes look at the farms. There are usually animals, or workshops to make fresh bread or pasta, or even the chance to pick fruits and vegetables.
Visiting a Fattoria Didattica while in Italy is the perfect addition to any Italian vacation, especially with kids! You’ll get an experience that is very authentic, rest assured not many tourists know about this fantastic opportunity, that in my opinion, is a MUST DO when visiting Italy as a family.
By visiting a Fattoria Didattica you’ll give your kids the chance to really live the Italian Countryside, even if they don’t understand a word of Italian!!
A day trip to a Fattoria Diddattica is a great way to give your vacation a break from the tourist spots. Kids can get bored going from church to church, so working in a special stop in the country can be nice for everyone.
In and around Modena, where I live, you’ll want to check out the site Fattorie Didattiche.it. There are a LOT of Fattorie Didattiche in this area of Italy, which is home to many of the world’s greatest culinary treasures, including Balsamic Vinegar and Parmigiano Reggiano. You’ll want to visit the websites of the farms listed to see when their opening hours are. Many require you to book your trip in advance.
You may also have the chance to participate in a special workshop day and workshops usually have a small fee attached to them. If you plan on staying for lunch or dinner be sure to ask if there is a restaurant. Some Fattorie Didattiche offer a “brown bag” lunch while others have restaurants or “Agriturismi”.
Tomorrow I will be sharing our day trip to Campogalliano near Modena. We went to the “Agriturismo La Falda” a Fattoria Didattica and Agriturismo. I’ll explain all about Agriturismi tomorrow as well so I hope you’ll come back and visit again!
If you are visiting other parts of Italy why not check out the site Fattorie Didattiche.biz, for a complete list of Teaching Farms from Turin to Sicily!
Visiting Italy with Kids? Why not take the road less travelled and visit the #Fattoriedidattiche...
