New York style food by Frederiks on Hope Street

In less than 9 weeks, I’ll be visiting New York for the first time. Frederiks, a new NYC style eatery and bar on Hope Street gave me a first taste of the Big Apple dining experience. I like to try what some might call “basics” instead of gourmet food. I’m really not a fussy easter but when it come to basics, you gotta get them right.

So we decided to have some beer and Aperol instead of a starter and jumped straight into the mains which came in reasonably sized portions with plenty flavour. I opted for sweet potato fries and Merguez sausages with a homemade tomato sauce whilst Mr CLI decided to try out the maple bacon and gruyere pizzetta.

With the sounds of Motown running in the background we then turned to my favourite part of the meal. The dessert. And that was nothing short of divine. My Guinness and chocolate cake was packed with flavour and a super soft vanilla cream topping. And Mr CLI throughly enjoyed his New York baked cheesecake.

Next time you’re on Hope Street make sure you stop by the “New / Old Korova” (depending when you started uni here) since that’s where the Frederiks has opened shop.
