Why I Ditched Foundation

{coffee recommended}
Growing up with oily, acne prone skin, foundation was pretty much mandatory for me {or so I thought}. Foundation plus concealer plus powder. Until a few months ago when I discovered a miracle that not only improved the condition of my skin but also helped it to heal and clear. I have tried dozens of foundations over the years trying to cover up my imperfections and what I really needed to do was let my skin breathe a little. Years and years of suffocating it with heavy foundation (yes, I used only oil free) led to a massive breakout last year that left me down in the dumps and at my dermatologist's door steps once again. I have always struggled with my skin and have been on every single acne medicine available, seriously, you name it I have been on it. I was so fed up.

I first heard about BB cream when I was vacationing in Indonesia where my friend Jessica asked me if I had ever heard of it. She said it was sweeping the East as a miracle cream that makes you look younger and nearly flawless. I thought to myself, if this is really that amazing wouldn't it be in the US? Sure enough within the next 6 months I saw it start creeping up in advertisements stateside. I didn't jump on the bandwagon immediately though as I was more focused on finding the best foundation to cover my imperfections. As I was trying product after product I started to also test primers. My skin was so oily that I would have to use oil sheets once or twice an hour or else oil slick city. So gross. My journey through primers led me to the miracle that is Tarte Tinted BB Treatment 12 Hour Primer SPF 30. But I didn't ditch foundation just yet. I used it for a couple of months underneath my foundation and saw very nice results, less oil production, makeup stayed put much better, fuller coverage, and it is as soft as silk and light as air. I wasn't entirely satisfied though because I felt like I had a pound of makeup shellacked on my face. One weekend I decided to just use the primer with a little dusting of powder. By the end of the day I was really surprised at how nice it looked. It was acceptable!

I kept up this routine at work since, hey, work people don't really care if my face looks flawless anyways right? That turned into a couple weeks later and then a couple months later....no foundation! Over that short amount of time I realized I didn't need to use oil sheets every hour, or every two or three hours even and breakouts went away, the tone of my skin improved, and just the overall condition of it was really great.

Today, several months later, I am still without foundation and am so happy I discovered this little gem of a product. It really changed my face. If you are experiencing similar issues I encourage you to give it a try. I feel there is real value in letting your skin breathe and you know what, maybe less really is more sometimes.

Today's look features a way more natural look for me. I didn't do anything to my hair, just blow dried it and did very, very light makeup using my now everyday light base Tarte Tinted BB Treatment 12 Hour Primer. What do you think about this? Have you tried a BB Treatment?
