HOLIDAYS DRESS CODE GUIDE

Con navidad a la vuelta de la esquina, el número de eventos en nuestra agenda crece considerablemente y al mismo tiempo las situaciones de “tengo un clóset lleno de ropa y nada que ponerme!”. Las fiestas navideñas con amigos, familiares o de la oficina a la distancia podrían parecer que requieren el mismo tipo de vestimenta, pero en el mundo complicado en el que vivimos hoy en día, (sí, adivinaste!) ciertamente no. Aquí les dejo my philosophie de cómo vestirse para cada ocasión…

With the holidays around the corner, the number of events in our agenda increases considerably and simultaneously the”I have a closet full of clothes, nothing to wear!” situations. Christmas parties with friends, family or at the office from far may seem like they call for the same dress code, but in the complicated world that we live today, (yes, you guessed the answer) they don’t. Here’s my philosophie of how to dress for each occasion…

Antes de las 6pm. En este tipo de situaciones buscas algo casual pero muy cool, también conocido como: pantalones de print con un sweater y un abrigo que te haga hacer una increíble entrada o una salida con mucho estilo. También puedes usar un vestido con un collar llamativo o jeans pero mezclados con algo más elegante (y en este caso no pueden ser rotos!). Se tu misma, pero un poquito mejor (jaja!). Agrega algo inesperado, prueba un estampado diferente o un detalle. Recuerda que menos es más.Y por último, más no por eso menos importante, no olvides agregar algo de brillo o un toque metálico, no mucho solo la cantidad perfecta para hacer este look mucho más especial.

Before 6pm. This call for casual but cool also know as: printed pants paired with a sweater and an amazing coat for a incredible arrival or a dramatic exit. Also acceptable is printed dress with a statement necklace or a pair of jeans (not ripped) with a dressier blouse. Be you, but a little bit better (haha!). Add an unexpected print or detail. Remember that less is more. Last but not least, don’t forget to add a little bit of shine or metallic fabrics, just the right amount to make this outfit more special.

Evento de la oficina. Si ya sabes que vas a tener este evento mientras te estás vistiendo en la mañana y las posibilidades son muy altas de que no puedas regresar a cambiarte, escoge algo que puedas transformar agregándole unas cuantas cosas. Tal vez unos tacones o botines más altos o de un material más delicado, un clutch más padre de lo normal pero que te quepan bastantes cosas o una falda que te puedas poner antes de llegar al evento y que le de otro aire a tu outfit de oficina. Ten en cuenta que la calidad de los materiales puede hacer una gran diferencia. Y por último, no olvides que este no es el momento para mostrar tu lado más sexy, aléjate de estampados como el leopardo, las cosas brillosas o las lentejuelas. Se profesional pero crea un outfit que refleje tu estilo.

Office event. If you already know that you have this event while your dressing up in the morning and it is must likely that you can’t go back to your house to change, be clever and choose something that you can transform with just a few things. Maybe take a nicer or more delicate pair of boots, a cuter clutch with room for all your stuff or a skirt that you can easily change to your office outfit, before you arrive to the party. Keep in mind that the quality of the materials can make a huge difference. And finally, this is not the time to show your sexy side, stay away from leopard, shine and sequins. Keep it professional but create an outfit that reflects your style.

Cenas. Ya sea para la cena de navidad o de algún otro tipo, un vestido tipo coctel es siempre la mejor opción. Puedes usar un clásico vestido negro con un collar llamativo o puedes marcar la diferencia y probar un lado más formal (de todas formas divertido) de las lentejuelas. Normalmente reservamos estos vestidos para la noche de año nuevo, pero a mí me encantan con medias opacas o de red para este tipo de ocasiones. Agrega tu clutch favorito y estás lista! Aléjate de los outfits aburridos, de los jeans, de pasar desapercibida, de los sweaters con renos, santas y demás y los accesorios como sombreros que son incomodísimos si estás dentro de un lugar.

Dinner party. For christmas eve or a fancy dinner, a cocktail a dress is always the best option. You can wear a classic little black dress with a statement necklace or you can to take a step forward and try a more formal (still fun) side of sequins. We normally save sequin dresses for New Year’s eve, but I love them with bold or fishnet tights and a classic pair of pumps for this kind of occasions. Add your favorite clutch and you’re ready! Stay away from boring outfits, jeans, holiday sweaters and hats or accessories that are super uncomfortable if you’re indoors.

Fiesta con amigos. Diviértete y se tu misma. No hay mejor ocasión para ponerte lo que tu quieras y tomar riesgos que cuando tienes un evento con tus amigos. Para este tipo de ocasiones, prefiero usar botas sin tacón o tacones no tan altos, mi recomendación es que guardes los zapatos incómodos para las cenas o eventos en que vas a estar la mayor parte del tiempo sentada. Esta es lo ocasión perfecta para crear un outfit que sea cómodo pero al mismo tiempo sofisticado. Mi consejo es que juegues con el color, los estampados y las texturas como el tweed o el terciopelo. Aléjate de cualquier cosa con la que no te sientas cómoda.

Party with Friends: Be fun, be yourself. There’s no better occasion to wear what you like and take risks than with your friends. For this events, I prefer wearing a pair of boots without heels or lower heels, save the uncomfortable shoes for dinner parties or events that you know you’ll be sitting most of the time. This is the perfect occasion to create an outfit that is both comfortable and sophisticated. My advice is that you should play with color, patterns and textures, such as tweed or velvet. And stay away from anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
