Discussion: Commenting on Comments

Hello lovelies! Welcome to another one of my rambly discussions. Today, it’s about commenting on comments. If you have no idea what I mean, I’m basically talking about replying to other people’s comments. But no one ever does that. At least, not really. Sometimes, I’ll get comments saying things like “I saw in the other comments that…” and that means that people do read the comments.

Most of the time, a commenter is only talking to the author of the post. Rarely ever is a commenter commenting on another commenter’s comment. But why is that? After all, the comment section is meant to be a discussion. Should we be trying to make these conversations more developed?

Personally, I’ve hardly ever replied to other people’s comments on someone else’s post. But now, I really want to start. We could be creating conversations between 3 or even more people. I’m not sure about other commenting systems, but in Disqus you can @ reply people and I’m quite sure they get a notification when you do. This means that there could be a massive discussion about a topic.

Do you think we should be commenting on comments more?
