Top 5: Secretly DNFed Books

A few days ago, I did a post about my Inability to “Did Not Finish” books. I used to leave them as “currently-reading” for the longest time and then marked them as “to-read” again. I always hoped that I would get back to them one day. But today, I’m going to face the fact that I probably never ever will. So here goes, my secrets are being revealed.

These Broken Stars by Amy Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Okay so let’s just get the most outrageous one out of the way. Yes, I couldn’t finish These Broken Stars. And I’m so sorry! I know it’s like everyone’s favourite book but I just wasn’t getting into it. Out of my top 5, it’s probably the one that I’m most likely going to give another chance to. The only reason I didn’t want to continue was because the main girl was really pissing me off. But I’m sure that there’s lots of character development so maybe!

The Death Cure by James Dashner

I actually really like the first in this series, The Maze Runner. However, as the series went on, it just became worse and worse until I reached the point where I just couldn’t keep going. This trilogy would’ve done way better as a duology. Now that the movie is coming out, I’m just going to give up and watch the third movie when it comes out.

Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine

Rachel Caine is a really popular author which is why I was super excited to read this book. It would’ve been my first book by her. Except, it just wasn’t really my style. It’s set in the Romeo & Juliet world and it’s all really interesting but not my favourite genre.

The Queen’s Choice by Cayla Kluver

I have to admit, I only wanted to read this book because it had a pretty cover. But it shows that you should’ve judge a book by how it looks on the outside! I mean, it wasn’t excruciating or anything. I just didn’t care about the characters whatsoever. It takes a lot for me to love a high fantasy story.

The One and Only Jack Chant by Rosie Borella

This was my most recent DNF and actually what inspired this post. I’d literally been trying to read this book for over a month. It was just so extremely slow though. I got halfway before I decided that the setting was just too different. No real action was happening and I was finding it so hard for me to connect with the protagonist.

Honorable Mentions

A Game of Thrones and A Breath of Frost are also books that I’ve ‘secretly DNFed’ however, they’re two that I actually really want to read again one day. The sequels of both have intrigued me. So hopefully in the near future, these two will be read!

Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Maybe one deserves a second chance?
