Discussion: Favourite Kind of Ending?

I’ve read quite a few discussions about endings. Cliffhangers, bad endings, good endings, happy endings and sad endings. But with all this talk about what’s done right and what’s done bad, I want to know what you’re favourite kind of ending is. I know everyone is different with what they think which is why I think this will be a very interesting comment section.

Most of the time, I’m happy with a happily ever after. That neat bow that just ties everything together. The girl and the boy end up together. Or the evil people die etc. etc. I know it’s cliche and totally cheesy but as long as it’s done right, a little cuteness is always good enough for me.

BUT. The more more I think about it, the more I realise that it’s not easy for an ending to be ‘done right’ in my perspective. First of all, it can not be too convenient. You know when you can just see that everything’s gonna work out and it’s like no fun? Yeah, not cool. I also hate it when I finish a book and I’m just like “I gained absolutely nothing from that.” Or when the annoying person gets what they want or they don’t die even though I want them to die. Or worse! The main character is the annoying person. DUN DUN DUN. Like, why do they have to be annoying.

I could go on. But. I’m probably not making any sense. I can feel my eyelids drooping. My whole body is turning off. I need sleep. But you are just gonna have to stick with me a little longer to let me know what you think!

It’s pretty much impossible for an author to please everyone so do you think there is that perfect ending that fits everyone? What’s your favourite kind of ending?
