Why use Social Media to Promote your Craft Business?

If you're reading this I can pretty much guarantee you use social media sites already. Most of you will have personal Facebook and Twitter accounts, but even if you don't you are still probably familiar with the way they work. Most networks are about sharing views, information and images with people who follow or like you. It can be an incredibly effective way to connect and interact with your existing and potential customers so it's definitely worth looking into!
Many years ago social media sites had been dismissed by most businesses and individuals as an outlet for a younger generation to chat and share pictures, but we're learning that these websites offer so much more than that. They give the consumer a voice. Being able to vocalise both positive and negative opinions means companies have and must take notice and whilst doing this have realised the power of these websites to offer their customers better service and in turn gain more customers via their positive experiences.

If we compare how social media communication imitates real life relationships we can see how creating bonds and friendships can grow followings of individuals, communities and businesses well beyond one off encounters to a level that encourage and increase loyalty. By making repeat encounters and engaging in personal conversations with your clientele you can mimic real life connections to build consumer confidence in your business.
This means is that you can connect on a level that is both personal and comfortable for you and your customers. You can be more genuine and individual with you marketing. Lets say you have a jewellery business. You can talk about your travels (for example) and how that has influenced your designs. This gives a back story and personality to your business you won't find on most e-commerce websites.
These practices are now commonplace for online business with 93% of companies now employing social media in their marketing strategy, but it can get a little confusing starting out and understanding how to best implement social media into your own marketing strategy and by what means to make the most of your links and networks. We'll be exploring all social media channels and promoting your business through these avenues much more thoroughly in the coming weeks on Crafts Business.
