the gnats go to calabash

if you’ve been following along on facebook or instagram, you might know that we took a lovely trip to the North Carolina coast last week.

we stayed at the Brunswick Villas just outside the cute town of Calabash, and spent a fair amount of time at the beautiful Sunset Beach. ooh, and George’s Pancake House!! I do love a good pancake and they didn’t disappoint. (note: not sponsored links, just good stuff.)

we enjoyed days at the beach,

took a few mini golf excursions,

had a few photo shoots (with outtakes galore… more of the good pics coming soon!),

saw lots of smiles, and ate plenty of ice cream.

it was an amazing vacation, but this wasn’t the vacation we initially planned for this summer. when the initial vacation plans fell through, I was disappointed. moreover, I was worried that the vacation we ended up taking would be a distant second to that vacation we didn’t take.

we made it through a 12 hour drive with smiles on our faces, and everything continued to be just lovely. on the second day, as I sat on the beach, listening to the waves and watching the girls play in the sand, I found myself thinking about karma… about this idea that you get what you deserve in some universal sense. would that mean that because our vacation was so good, that we were somehow good as well? eh, that seems too easy, like a cop out.

perhaps karma has nothing to do with good, bad, or deserving. could it be much simpler than universal magic at work? I think it could. I think that karma is you… more specifically, your perspective.

some people have the ability to see the best in things, and so, for them, things are good. when you compare what you have to what you wish you had, things don’t seem so great. your own karma is yours to steer. everyone else? let them worry about their own.

so, smile and enjoy the good in what you have. for we are neither good nor bad… we are all just us, people having experiences that are what we make of them. so make them good! it’s so much nicer :)

happy summering!
