quilting: cherie baby quilt

This post is written by Alli of B.Yazoo and sponsored by Art Gallery Fabrics.

Have you seen Cherie, Frances Newcombe‘s new fabric line with Art Gallery? It’s a collection for the romantic jetsetter in all of us (hee), but more practically, it’s got a wonderful mix of workhorse and novelty designs: great low volume and greyscale prints, texty prints, blenders, and fun bicycles.

When I saw this line, I wanted to make a greyscale herringbone quilt (inspired by Cluck Cluck Sew’s Sweet n’ Sassy quilt) — the bright pink Les Points Rose makes for perfect pops of color. Usually I have trouble getting something fun and unexpected into my quilts’ color schemes, but this time it was built right into the line. Yay!

My favorite prints were the Les Points (the dot-dashes) in all three colors and the dark grey Memorandum Cosmos (the coffee sack-ish texty print). The bicycling girls are really cute, too, but don’t know if I managed to get a whole one in this quilt! (knit version of bicycling girls available here in the shop)

While sewing this up, I definitely noticed the smoooooth silkiness of the Art Gallery fabric, as compared to the normal solid white I pulled from my stash. Someday, I want to make a voile quilt, but while that’s out of my price range, I wouldn’t say no to an all-Art Gallery quilt… ;D

If I were keeping this quilt, I would have loved to back it in Belles Parisiennes. It’s a larger scale print, and those sassy ladies make me giggle!

However, since I promised Mr. Yazoo that he could give it to his co-worker’s new baby, I went with a backing that’s just as cute, but a bit safer. hehe.

I had so much fun playing with Cherie! In fact, I was so excited that I made my whole family drive out to Chinaman’s Hat to take special beach pictures… and then I chickened out when there were other people nearby. >_< We did get this picture that accidentally included one of the three just-married couples who were also there to take pictures… hee!

*I received fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics in exchange for writing this post. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own. read the imagine gnats full advertising and disclosures policies here.
