Travel: Great Northern Hotel, London

On Monday I took myself off to London to spend a couple of days exploring the city and catching up with Friends. Since I no longer live just outside the city I needed a base for my stay. London is full of wonderful hotels but I chose the Great Northern Hotel as it is central and located right next door to Kings Cross St Pancras.

Great Northern Hotel is a very old boutique hotel which is perfect for a luxury London stay. It is a very old hotel having been opened in the mid 1800s. It was however recently refurbished but it still retains the charm of the period. It contains 91 rooms, 3 bars and a restaurant. There are three different style of rooms and I stayed in the amazing cubitt room. The room itself is compact in size but with all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury hotel. Large comfortable bed, flatscreen TV complete with a tonne of the latest movies, nespresso machine for that lovely morning coffee, chaise lounge, lareg powerful shower with two heads, complimentary toiletries, waffle dressing gowns and slippers. It is decorated to a very high standard with huge mirrors peppered around the room, high ceilings, huge windows and a definite luxe look and feel. I couldn’t have been happier with the room it has everything I’d expect from a luxury hotel and more. There’s even a safe in there for your valuables.

On the same floor as my room there was also what they call a pantry. Unlike any pantry I’ve ever seen though. The pantry contains daily newspapers, coffee making facilities, snacks, pastries and fruit. It is also entirely complimentary. It’s the little details that count.

The staff were approachable and friendly and very very helpful. Although you probably won’t need to bother them very often. The hotel itself has a glamorous opulent feel to it thanks to the amazing decor. Full of rich colours, mirrored surfaces, hand-crafted furniture and neutral walls. Warning though – it is so easy to get lost in this building. It is bigger than it looks and sometimes it can feel like a maze. I got out on the wrong floor once and spent 15 mins trying to find my way out. Not a bad place to get lost in to be honest.

Overall I’d say if you’re looking for a luxury hotel, that is central with amazing staff, brilliant facilities and where all the little details are taken care of then this is the place for you!

*note* This was not a freebie, we actually paid for it ourselves.
