Skeleton Gorge

So did you all have a good weekend? I wanted to get some exercise yesterday and since it was so incredibly hot I decided to walk up Skeleton Gorge as it’s shaded the whole way until you reach the top of the mountain. I had my phone with me and decided to snap some photos en route because I thought a few you might not have done this walk and it really is quite amazing.

Cape Town has plenty of trendy and happening spots as you know but it’s really the outdoors, the sea and the mountain that make this city so great. So a hike up Table Mountain is a must. There are many routes up but Skeleton Gorge is one of my favourites. You start from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and walk up a beautiful ravine. You’ll be climbing steps all the way so it will get your heart going and you need to be fairly fit. Be sure to wear the right shoes as near the top you need to climb over rocks in the riverbed and if it’s been raining a lot, it gets quite slippery and wet.

It took me an hour to get to the top of the mountain, taking it fairly easy, and I then walked to the reservoirs and across to Nursery Ravine and back down to Kirstenbosch. It’s a lovely circular loop and afterwards you can explore the gardens.

I love hiking in the autumn months because the sun is still shining, the rivers are full and there’s nothing better than filling your water bottle up from a mountain stream. When last did you hike up our mountain?
