Differentiate DAG from SWAG

Why do some items stand out while others crumble and fail?

I’m not talking about the obvious standouts, like a sequin jacket or edgy studded leather shorts that need nothing else, as they stand on their own. I’m talking about putting a few items together to build a statement outfit.

What is the defining thing that takes it from ‘MEH’ to YEAH? Right now, Im interested in the difference between a t-shirt that makes an outfit and one that breaks an outfit.

(fear not, photos will be included)

Just yesterday I came across a blog post by Who What Wear about graphic tees, and how to style them coming into winter. They introduced a hash tag for people to share how they wear their tees, and with what. GREAT idea! Loved it, and defs some great photos posted. NOW! How is it that some people can absolutely ROCK a t-shirt and others not so much?

It all comes down to knowing your style PEOPLE!… that is what it boils down to. While I am a true believer that the lovable, trusty Tee can be worn by EVERYONE, I also believe that it must be worn DIFFERENTLY depending on your body type/style or what event you are wearing it to.

…. Love this look.

Now, I honestly think that you can’t really go wrong with an oversized, loose Tee and tights, with maybe a blazer, heels and a big necklace (if you are a man, its even easier!). If the shirt is big enough it can double as a dress, or it can be tucked into high-wasted skinny leg jeans or a skirt. Or a combination of all of the above( naawwwt… kidding).

Disagree all you like on this one, but to me, the fitted ‘ladies’ Tee is not that extraordinary. It’s very underwhelming at best, is not the most flattering thing one can wear, and doesn’t do much, if anything for the overall outfit. By all means they do the job of serving as a casual top, yes, but if you are looking to add some flavor to your outfit the fitted ladies cut tee is NOT the way to go. AVOID.

Dont really love this look.

So now that we have cleared that up, its safe to say oversized is best. Just make sure you chose carefully. What will you wear it with? Does it have patterns? Does it have a quote? And does that quote actually REFLECT your opinion? Fashion is art, and art is expression, so just make sure you are actually expressing yourself and not someone else’s opinion. Other wise you won’t own it as well as others could.

Just because its printed, with writing, does not make it stylish, or witty.

Now go nuts! Careful on the colors and what you match them with. And keep in mind that certain prints make for a more casual Tee while others allow for a trendier look. Experiment with how oversized you like to wear them and START rocking this new look. Don’t be afraid to go a little out of your comfort zone and add a little more edge to your wardrobe.

Woo hooo!!!
