Did you know September is National Sewing Month? Every month is NSM around here, but I’m especially excited to be celebrating this month with a Desert Rose made with fabrics and thread from my local Joann’s. This dress is part of the Sew Your Style series for Joann Fabric & Crafts. To celebrate NSM they are hosting an exciting sewing competition sponsored by Pellon. Click over for more details, because it’s pretty awesome! Anyone is welcome to participate and contestants are asked to create a non-quilted, non-traditional project out of quilting cotton. Dresses count as non-traditional for quilting cotton, so head over and link up the gorgeous dresses, or purses, napkins, curtains, whatever, that you’ve been sewing.
These photos were taken in our new backyard (yay for our new house! thank you for all your kind words on my last post!) and mark the first photo shoot at the new house. Abby wanted to harvest, but our only fruit tree is navel orange and doesn’t ripen until the winter. So we pretended.
I won’t lie that it hurt a little to see a green orange come off the tree, but I didn’t realize how hard she could pull. When she puts her mind to something, she gets it done!
The bodice and skirt were both made using quilting cotton prints from Joann’s. The best part is, the store is right across the street from me now! My husband calls it dangerous, I call it wonderful. It’s all a matter of perspective.
Blessings to you all!
