It's a Flyin'

In 5 days my Little is 10 months old. How does that happen so fast? The first few months of his life days used to drag by and eventually the weekend would be here. Now? Days seem hours long (unless he is fighting a nap. Then it's definitely longer.) and weeks somehow go by in a blink of an eye. Not quite sure how that happens.

In 4 days we will have been living in our new home for 5 months. Almost half a year. 5 months and I still don't feel quite fully unpacked and situated. I haven't even found my 'spot' for photographing finished items. And oh do I have a back log of sewing and knitting to show you! But when your hubby has to help with photos, he gets home late, there is a boy to feed and put to bed, sudden snow storms dump 6" of snow, and suddenly it's dark out....well...photography just isn't as high on the priority list.

But here are some things that do get photographed!

Just like I have a backlog of things to photograph I have a backlog of partially completed projects. I'm finally finding them all, adding lots of things to Ravelry (now that I've forgotten needle sizes {facepalm}), and deciding whether or not I really want to keep working on said project. I'm attempting to work on one new project and finishing up one old at the same time. Ideally it should probably be 1 new to 5 old, but a girl needs variety.

So in the spirit of finishing up old projects I pulled out some handspun that was simply waiting for some more singles before plying. Back when I was pregnant I had this grand idea of spinning fiber for another blanket for M. This would be white with three marled yarns to compliment in an orange/butterscotch, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate.

These were all purchased from the now closed Fiber Studio back in 2009. This was the place I took my spinning class, so this fiber holds special meaning to me. I was intending to pair it with some natural/white mystery wool.

I had the milk chocolate done and plied while I was still pregnant, and then the blanket went on hold because I...well. Let's just say I was slightly delusional about how much free time I'd actually have.

I did manage to get both the butterscotch and the dark chocolate spun before we moved. But then the whole project went on the back burner again. Once I realized I only needed to spin one more bobbin of white the project kicked into high gear again.

One bobbin turned into 2.5 and a case of spinner's cramp. And possibly a lot of pain in my right ankle for the next few days. Plying almost 850 yards, on top of spinning singles, in three days will do that to you.

At least they are all done now. And of course now they will sit pretty on a shelf until I finish up enough projects that I can even consider starting a new blanket. Which I'm thinking might be Jared Flood's Tweed Baby Blanket.

I'm still not the most consistent spinner. And I've yet to discover the secret to beautiful fluffy yarn that doesn't pull apart while you're trying to ply. But I can truly say I enjoy it and it's a labor of love!

(and E might have helped me spin a little of the orange/white skein. I think that might be why one section isn't as tightly spun as the rest. I'm just happy he was trying to help his wife who just spent 4 hours plying and needed a break!)
