RIP Google Reader

I might have been a little distraught the other night with my discovery that Google Reader will be retired in July.

CRY
Then I snapped out of it and decided to do some digging. Thankfully other people have gone searching for a new reader too and these awesomesauce people have made lists. At the top of several lists was feedly.com. It works great with Firefox (now if I lost that I really would cry) and I figured I'd give it a go.

Think I'm really going to like it! It's clean, intuitive, and they offer a seamless transition from Google Reader. You mean I don't have to manually add all 110 blogs I read? Wow, did I just admit that? Granted many of those bloggers haven't posted in a couple of years. But I know if I delete them from my reader that I probably won't ever find them again should they start back up. But that's what's so great about readers. The quiet blogs hang out behind the curtain until they are ready to go on stage. (can you tell I've been thinking about theatre a lot lately?)

Now, the real reason I'm super sad that Google Reader is going away. For years I've been reading design blogs and tagging posts I like that have to do with homes and decorating. Now I'm going to lose all that.

So one of my 'M nap time' projects until July 1st will be going through all those tags (and wow do I have lots!) and pinning them onto Pinterest. I thought of doing this last year when I joined Pinterest, but it would have been a feat of strength then. Plus I wanted to keep my Pinterest boards to crafting only. Well, for the most part. But now...for those who follow me over there beware! Lots and lots of house, decorating, organizing, blah, blah, blah Pins incoming!

The hard part about this is that a good chunk of these I can't just Pin and delete from the Reader. Well, I could. But I'd rather give credit to the source of the photo, or as close as I can. So photos I've found on tumblr sights will take some research with Google Images (where you can literally 'drag' the photo you're searching the link to into the search field) so that I can Pin properly. (Isn't that annoying when you find a Pin you like, but it's linked to a blog title and not the specific post? Or not linked to anything?!? I figure I should attempt to lead by example.) {Isn't is also annoying when people use way too many parenthesis, brackets, and...um...sideways bird thingies in their paragraphs?}

As a little girl whenever I saw one of these } I thought someone was drawing little birds. Still makes me giggle to think back to the time when I asked my teacher why she was drawing birds in her bible.

Oh, and should you want to follow/check out my boards over there you can find me at:
