The Big Cake Show 2014

Hello lovelies!

On Friday I went to 'The Big Cake Show' held in Exeter, as part of their 2014 blogging team. My first event since moving to Devon. I was excited to take a day off from working on my new website and the million other projects I have on the go! More on that later...

The Big Cake Show 2014 is the biggest cake and bake show in the South West. The fabulous idea was born from a chat around the kitchen table of friends Mel & Kim. Their dream was to bring a slice of the baking and cake world to the South West, housed all under one roof they wanted to inspire other bakers with the latest trends, provide stalls where they could buy all their baking needs and be completely submerged in all things cake and baking.

After parking up and making my way to the press area through crowds of people , I was given a "Golden Ticket" and a lovely welcome by the fab Tracy who gave me a goodie bag, and a quick low down on the days events.

The show was packed and I started out by just looking around and seeing what was on offer. I was delighted to see many cakes and sweet treats were gluten free and the abundance of great bakeware. But it was nigh on impossible to get any photographs because it was so packed. As soon as Mary Berry took to the stage to make a Lemon Sponge Layer Cake the crowds around the stalls thinned out as everyone wanted to catch their favourite British baker in action. After watching Mary Berry I headed back to my favourite stalls like...

Frandie Macaron, who lovingly handcraft French style macarons in Devon. I purchased a couple of these pretty sweet macarons, and they were delicious!

Little Pod, an East Devon company that has brought to the market the first natural vanilla paste in a handy squeezable tube. They also had pure chocolate extract and pure coffee extract.

The Blueberry Brothers, whose gluten free blueberry brownies were to die for! I had one at the show and it was so good that I had to buy another one to take home with me.

The Wonky Kitchen, Whose delicious award winning fudge in flavours like Blackcurrant & Rosemary, Raspberry & White chocolate and my favourite Blueberry Buttermilk was so so good!

Sugar & Crumbs, who create natural flavoured icing sugars in flavours including Pear Drops, Turkish Delight, Salted Caramel and Pistachio. I got a bag of Peach Melba icing sugar in my goodie bag, which I can't wait to try. Of course which I will share here!

Designers Art & Soul, whose fine bone china tableware & household textile collection which is printed in England was super sweet.

Meadowsweet Flowers, Based in South Molton, Devon, they create beautiful hand crystallised edible flowers, with no added colouring or flavourings they really are a true reflection of the natural beauty of the blooms. They were stunning!

Last but by no means least, Pepperwhite Vintage, The Chalk Paint shop, who had a stunning array of Autentico chalk paints. I couldn't decide on the day what colours to choose, so I will have to visit their shop soon...

I had a great day and managed to catch Chris Tanner & Peter Gorton making a yummy chocolate tart and fruity roulade, both of which looked heavenly!

I hope to visit next year!

Have a sweet day!
