Guerlain Super Aqua-Serum Review

The very first time I went to a Guerlain event hosted by my dear friend Sarah, I purchased a full-size bottle of their Super Aqua-Serum. I wanted to wait to write this review until I'd used it for quite a while, so I could offer an honest assessment of its worth. I think I can safely say now that I really do love it, as I've used up the entire bottle. You read that right - I used it ALL up!

The thing about skincare for me is that I am willing to pay quite a bit of money for good skincare if I really do feel like it's worth the cost, but I have no interest in shelling out that hard-earned money for a product that isn't. So - while I can't say that this product literally changed my skin, I can say that my skin reacted very well to it, and I absolutely loved it.

It's hard for me to find a moisturizer that agrees with my combination skin (and I should mention here, I do use the Super Aqua-Serum as a moisturizer). I have tried so many that stung my skin, broke me out, didn't moisturize my drier areas well enough, made my oily areas even oilier... you name it. Guerlain's Super Aqua-Serum committed none of those sins, and made my skin feel simply pampered with every use. It is fragranced, but I love how it smells, and my sometimes-sensitive skin wasn't irritated in the least by the fragrance. It's white with a lotiony consistency that appears shiny on my skin for about one minute after I apply it, and then it sinks in beautifully. It worked well for me used morning and night (just fine under makeup), but I found I craved it even more at night.

I think the pump mechanism on it is perfect because I have no fears about dispensing too much; I could get away with using two pumps for my face and neck if I really wanted to, but I found I preferred to use four pumps so I could really lubricate my hands with it and massage it into my skin. It kept my skin well hydrated for - well, as long as it needed to, I suppose. I generally cleanse my skin twice each day and reapply moisturizer after each time, but I certainly wasn't looking or feeling dry by then with the Super Aqua-Serum, and I think it could have easily provided 24-hour moisture. At 25 years old, I don't have any wrinkles yet, so I can't say whether or not it "plumps wrinkles" as it claims to, but it certainly did leave my skin feeling soft and plump.

So now, the question is: will I repurchase? If it wasn't $165, the answer would be a resounding, "YES! WITHOUT A DOUBT! I'VE ALREADY BOUGHT MORE!" etc. ... but given that it is, I will say that I have found a few other moisturizers I like a lot that cost much less (Nuxe Creme Fraiche Light, reviewed here; and Boscia Revitalizing Black Hydration Gel and Dior Hydra Life Sorbet Creme, both briefly reviewed here). That does give me pause. However, none of those alternates offer the same feeling of comfort and luxury to me that the Guerlain serum does, and that matters to me too. So if I find myself "needing" to buy something by Guerlain, perhaps because I'm at another event at which I wish to buy something (and I already own nearly enough of their makeup to start my own counter), I will absolutely consider repurchasing it and probably will do so. I loved mine so much I teared up a little when I reached the end of the bottle, and a week later, I MISS IT!

If you'd like, you can order this with free shipping through Sarah at the Bellevue Nordstrom, phone number 425-455-5800 (ask for the Guerlain counter). I know she's been away from work recently due to an illness in the family, but hopefully all will be well and she will be back soon!
