Paisley Racerback Tank

I've been sewing up a storm and today I have another summer top to share with you. I used some stash fabric and modified a pattern that I've used no less than three times before. It was really easy to whip up and I'm so glad I did. Now I have a new top and a new racerback pattern!

The fabric is a linen blend (?) that I picked up at the bulk fabric store store downtown. I only had about a yard but the width was 60 inches. So I figured I could make a simple skirt or top. The fabric is very easy to work with and has a medium weight and not see-through at all.

I bought the fabric about a year ago and have been debating what to make ever since. I even asked for advice on Instagram a few weeks ago. After seeing so many Foxglove Tanks around the sewing blogs, I settled on making a racerback tank. I decided to modify a pattern that I liked instead of buying a new one. I started with Simplicity 2599 which I particularly like because it is sized by cup size. I redrew the back to create a curved racerback shape then redrew the front shoulders to match the back. To finish the edges I used self fabric bias binding.

The only other changes I made to the pattern were to add a slight curved hem and take it in a little bit at the side seams just under the arm. As mentioned, I have made this top three times before and if you're curious, here are the links: Loop Edge Top, Bias Stripe Top and Pink Pocket Top.

The back is definitely the hero of the outfit. I've always liked racerbacks but never really wore them. I really like this top and am so happy that I now have a racerback pattern for my collection. Here I'm wearing the top with my old BDG jeans and my gold elastic sandals (again!).
