DIY Menorah Place Cards

I am a bit type A, so I absolutely adore lists, my label maker and a clear sense of order at dinner parties. Enter: Place cards! They are a host’s best friend for wrangling partygoers and they allow your guests to avoid the “Where will I sit?” shuffle, while also giving you peace of mind that you have enough space for all of your guests to sit comfortably. My guests have come to expect a little craftiness adorning their place setting when they attend a dinner party at my house, and they seem to love taking those projects home after the meal. Since Hanukkah is right around the corner, I decided to create these Menorah Place Cards using birch veneer plywood. They are sturdy enough to last for at least eight nights of celebrating. -Sarah

What You’ll Need:

-1⁄4” birch veneer plywood, cut into 4” x 4” pieces
-Embossing heat tool
 -Silver embossing powder
 -Embossing ink pad
-Menorah stamp (I used this set)
 -White card stock
 -Writing instrument (I used a fine-tip Sharpie)
 -Double sided foam tape
 -Scissors

Steps:

1. Apply embossing ink to stamp.

2. Place stamp near the top center of a birch veneer square and firmly press down.

3. Generously sprinkle embossing powder over the stamped area, shake off the excess.

4. Using the heat tool, keep the tool about three inches from the stamped area and heat-set the embossing powder (this occurs when the powder changes color).

5. Cut a 2” x 1⁄2” rectangle out of white card stock, using scissors snip a “V” shape on each end of the card stock.

6. Write your guest’s name on the card stock flag, and using double sided foam tape, attach the flag to the birch veneer square.
