Springtime Elegance with an Ivy & Aster Dress and Fresh White Flowers

Welcome lovely readers, I hope you are having a wonderful Summer! I know you will adore the wedding I have for you today. It’s the perfect mix of modern elegance and vintage details.

Lindsay and Ashley got married on the 22 of May this year, 18 months after Ashley proposed in South East Asia. Lindsay’s love of fresh flowers is clear with the abundance of mixed white flowers all over the venue and her lovely ladder table plan. The small details in their wedding make it so special, Lindsay even made a heart shaped clay name plate for each guest and arranged for everyone to have an ice-cream outside after the ceremony!

“Flowers were the main focal point. I’m a bit obsessed with freshly cut flowers so I knew I wanted a variety of white flowers in rustic pots and jars so we based the rest of the décor around a quite shabby chic / vintage feel.”

“Nonsuch Mansion in Surrey is local to where we both grew up. We used to go to the park and public gardens within the grounds separately with our families when we were children. It still retains its Georgian features but with a modern twist – it was exactly what I was looking for. The planners, Jade and Lucy, were so helpful from start to finish. The day went so smoothly and it was all down to them.”

“On the day we went to look at Nonsuch, they were setting up another wedding so we got to see how it would really look rather than just empty rooms – we both fell in love with it straight away. The flowers looked so amazing that we even hired the same florist!

Michelle Rust was still setting up so we took her card and made an appointment to see her later. The flowers were so lovely and she made up potted flower boxes and orchids for the mantelpieces too. Everyone commented on the flowers and I just wish I could have frozen them in time and taken them all home with me to last forever! The whole day I was pestering people to take some at the end as I didn’t want them being thrown away.”

“The bridesmaids wore blue Ted Baker dresses. My sister Nicole was 7 months pregnant so it was important that she was comfortable. She and my best friend Jen looked so good in them and I loved that they can be worn with a high or V neck with the buttons at the front. They decided to wear them opposite ways so it looked like they had slightly different dresses.”

Lindsay wore the dazzling ‘Sweetpea’ dress by US brand Ivy and Aster from FrouFrou Bridal in Tunbridge Wells with Rachel Simpson shoes. She decided on a simple headband from Connie and Dolly which complimented her pretty crystal sash.

“I was first drawn to the dress because it had pockets (who doesn’t love a dress with pockets!), I loved the Swiss Dot fabric, it’s so very comfortable and also a little bit fun. Nicole and Helena were just so lovely and helpful, it was such a special experience having the shop all to myself for a full 1.5hr appointment.”

“We knew we wanted Kerry to be our photographer as soon as we saw her previous work. I don’t particularly like posed shots, hers were so natural and I loved how she captured expressions and reactions. She did an amazing job of making sure there were shots of all our lovely guests and really captured the feeling of the day.”

“We had two readings, I didn’t want anything too soppy or anything religious so we chose ‘True Love’ by Author Unknown. I think the words are very true and apt. My sister read ‘I Carry Your Heart’ by EE Cummings. Two weeks before the wedding I watched the film ‘In Her Shoes’ where Cameron Diaz’s character reads the poem at her sister’s wedding.

It was so beautiful and perfect that I added it at the last minute. It was quite emotional and I think it set everyone off including me!”

“It sounds cheesy but it really was the best day I have had…so far! The most important and special part of the day was seeing Ash standing there waiting for me, all my nerves went away and I really enjoyed it – and you suddenly remember what all this planning was all about.”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“It’s always going to be an amazing day no matter what, all the people you love the most are there just for you two. A videographer was the one thing I really wished we had but my lovely friends took short videos throughout the day and it was just so lovely watching us say our vows, being able to hear the speeches again and seeing our first dance was just priceless.

I really enjoyed the build up, it was such an exciting and happy time, I really tried not to get too stressed or let the planning take over my whole life, so after the wedding it didn’t feel like there was a massive hole where all the wedding planning chaos once was.”

Ice-creams are such a fabulous idea for a warm sunny day, luckily Lindsay and Ashley got the splitting sunshine they needed just as their ceremony finished!
