THE Lovettes (Lindsey) ~ 7 Year Reflections And Getting Measured For The Dress

It feels like an age since I wrote my last post, and yet it also feels like not very much wedding stuff has happened at all. August passed by in a slow haze, of four-seasons-in-one day walks with the dogs, of too-much-wine with friends, of cliff-clambering and bird-watching; while September was a whirlwind as I discovered my inner activist during Scotland’s biggest political awakening in 100 years. From the quiet moments simply standing in the wide open space of my croft, to the clamour of the crowds in Glasgow, and finally the enormity of putting a cross in a box, I was truly grateful for my anchor in the storm; Jonathan.

We celebrated our seven year anniversary recently, and I’ve been reflecting on how far we’ve come together. From our first faltering moments outside King Tuts, not knowing we were looking at our future husband/wife, to the flourishing we experienced living together in our first home and the giddy excitement of planning our wedding, we have a huge amount to be thankful for. I’m not much of a planner, I prefer to see where life takes me than to feel I must measure and manage every step, but mapping out our journey to marriage has been joyful, and has spurred on our desire to set out on the other side into adventure together. All being well, after a short honeymoon in Santorini we plan to head off round the world later on next year, and just see what we find there.

Back to the matter in hand, we have experienced a small flurry of wedding-related activity in the past week. We visited the always marvellous Glasgow Wedding Collective wedding fair at The Lighthouse with our eye firmly on finding a cake, and boy did we find cake. Rhubarb and custard sponge, gluten-free orange and almond deliciousness, tablet (for those of you who haven’t tried tablet, it’s sort of like fudge, but if fudge decided it just wasn’t sugary or tasty enough) and – dear lord – the salted caramel and chocolate tarts. It’s a miracle we didn’t slip into a sugar-coma as we just couldn’t resist the samples – ALL the samples (surely eating all the samples has to be one of the more important perks of wedding planning, right?).

As we floated round the different stalls on our sugar high, we were just bowled over by the loveliness of the folks we spoke to. I cannot recommend the Glasgow Wedding Collective highly enough – I can’t think of a single supplier we’ve sourced who didn’t come from them, or from Love My Dress.**

I’ve also had my first ‘design-chat’, and been measured for my wedding dress, EEEP! On this occasion, it was a miracle I didn’t lose myself in fabric-nirvana, as I leafed through lace samples and beaded trims and wanted to use them ALL (sensing a theme here?). I love my wedding dress person, she’s ridiculously talented and so lovely to chat to; I just knew when I met her she was ‘the one’ (it was less a case of ‘say yes to the dress’ and more ‘say YAS to the lass’, hoho! *groan*).

Although I know roughly what I want my dress to look like, I am taking a bit of a leap as at the moment it exists only in composite images and sketches; I am super excited about seeing it come together though, and knowing my dress will be one of a kind is quite special indeed.

It’s less than six months to go for us now, and it really does all seem to be coming together. Table plans are pretty settled, bridesmaids’ outfits are underway, and virtually everything is booked. While in my head I’m clearly thinking, ‘och, this wedding planning is a doddle’, I’m very much aware that we will eventually enter the month-to-go code-red phase, at which point I will corral every last pal I can find and beg them to tie up favours or glitter mason-jars, while I feverishly nibble lace samples in a corner. Damn those samples. Either way, I know that on the day I’m just going to wake up and let go, because the only thing that matters will be the person waiting for me at the top of the aisle, my Jonathan.

** Note form Annabel: Seriously support this statement! The Glasgow Wedding Collective is one of the best events I have ever been too, organised by wedding industry suppliers for brides – if not *the* best. I’m not kidding. A totally amazing team of creative, innovative, talented and bloody brilliant Scottish suppliers.
