6 reasons I love Yoga

Funny fact, I fell in a very awkward position after I took this photo! Truth is I haven’t done this pose in a while (none the less in jeans!) but I thought it would look cool with that amazing backdrop! A sunset like that needed a more dynamic pose rather than a boring ass downward dog… haha. Oh the things I do for a good photo.

Being a blogger looks easy from the outside but it is a very stressful thing to take on at times. Sure there are a lot of perks, but being in front of the computer multi tasking 20 different things at once (instagram, editing, emails, phone calls, writing content, updating social media…etc) it can be really hard to disconnect and step away from all the blogging business. Multi tasking all day just makes it easier for my ADD to kick in and harder to concentrate on one sole thing. Today I wanted to talk about finding the balance between blogging full time and knowing when to relax and take a step back. Yoga has been a big part of learning how to disconnect and something I want to keep doing until I’m old. Here are the 6 reasons I love yoga.

1. Great for body

First things first, yoga obviously is amazing for the body. It re-alines my spine (after spending hours in front of the computer), helps me have better posture which in turn makes me appear taller and leaner, makes me stronger, and helps me understand how my body moves. It’s amazing how healing yoga is when you really focus and make it your practice. My body feels so out of sync when I haven’t done it for a while.

2. Teaches patience.

I am the most impatient person sometimes! When I want something I get anxiety and antsy until I get it. Yoga shows me time and time again that with patience everything will happen in it’s own time. You cant immediately do a head stand, but you can to work towards it. And that’s ok… because once you can do one, after working your way towards it, you feel empowered and proud of how much you have improved. You actually are impressed after a while of the things you can do with your body that you thought you could never do before. This transcends into every day life as well. If you work slowly and steadily towards a goal, you can achieve it.

3. Stress Management

Man, I wish you guys could be in my head to see how chaotic it can be. Actually no I don’t. I am constantly thinking of a million things at once! I am always trying to get stuff done and in a way I am kind of a Work-a-holic. I don’t know how to just relax. Yoga helps me stop, empty out my brain and just focus on the movements I am doing. If I don’t focus, I could easily hurt myself so I have no choice. You also have to focus a lot on your breath throughout the whole process which helps you get rid of extra stress and anxieties. I love when all I am focused on is what I am currently doing and nothing else. No to-do lists, no emails, no phone calls, nothing but you and your breath.

4. Prevents injuries

Yoga helps improve your flexibility which makes it even easier to do other sports. You are less likely to get injured because you have really been working on your whole bodies flexibility. Your muscles are more agile and help other workouts like doing squats or pilates a lot easier….. and… well I don’t even think I have to mention sex do I? Haha. I recently started doing Jiu Jitsu and I think I definitely owe it to Yoga on how far I can take certain moves (which isn’t much now since I still suck) but I can definitely feel my body give way to possibilities.

5. Increase awareness

Ever since I started doing yoga (years ago), I have become so aware of my body. I know exactly what I am capable of and know that if I just breath and try things slowly I might be able to reach my goal. Yoga teaches you to breath and be aware of how your body reacts to that breath and how it takes it in. Listening to how it sounds and thinking of nothing but that. I noticed immediately that i was even a better listener after practicing yoga religiously. Of course, reading a book on zen might help with that as well

6. Meditation

Meditation is the best way to stay in touch with reality, stay grounded and really have gratitude for everything in life. Yoga helps give you that time you need to meditate and empty out all your thoughts. Meditation helps you embrace calmness and serenity and helps you release all thoughts that are really just unimportant in life. Learning to meditate changed my life. In yoga, I love to focus on my body and really feel what it is capable of. It just feels so good to get in touch with it in this way.

So get out there and do some yoga! See you tomorrow with an outfit post !! Don’t forget to enter my Cleobella giveaway!!
