Little Surfer Girl

I’m so happy summer is here and we still have a good two months of it here in San Diego. I grew up around surfing so it really is something I enjoy doing yet seldom do. When I was little I used to surf after school with my best friend who lived right on the beach. Winter or Summer… we were there until the sun was setting. I learned to surf when I was little because it has always been a big part of my dad’s life and he made sure to show me how to stand on a board as soon as I was able to. A little fact a lot of people don’t know about me is that my dad was a Mexican surfing pioneer who brought Surfing from California (where he visited when he was little) and took it back to his home town of Ensenada, Baja California. He went on to create the first Mexican surf team and ended up competing against international surf legends during the golden age of surfing. Woah. I think that’s pretty baller! I find it so inspirational that he found something he was passionate about and made sure to share it with everyone he met… especially his loved ones. Surfing for me is nostalgic. Reminds me of days of playing on the beach with my friends and endless summers at surf camp. Although I am still a beach rat, I wouldn’t consider myself a “hard core” surfer. It will however, always be such a big part of my heart and something that brings me back to who I am and where I come from. I love the feeling of salt in my hair, on my skin, the sun in my face and the solitude you get when you are sitting out there waiting for that perfect wave. Plus it’s one of the best work outs ever and I am kinda of a work out junkie so… two birds with one stone kinda situation . Anyway, we got these amazing photos the other day and I thought it would be a great way to introduce this background of mine on the blog. I love these photos John captured! Anyway, I would love to hear about you guys! What is a sport, or hobby that your family has passed onto you? Something that makes you instantly feel at home and brings you back to your roots. Maybe its a place, or a ritual… something that you are happy to have in your life. Share!
