It’s time to play everybody’s favorite game: What Do You Like About This Room?

source

If I were on a game show and could only give a one-word answer I would just say “everything!!” because it’s true. But thankfully that’s not how we play here so I can give you the long version. I’m drooling over ALL of the furniture, the white cabinets, the dark window frames that aren’t being harassed by curtains, the combination of the gray walls and warm floors, the subtle repetition of shapes… It’s just SO GOOD.

It makes me want to paint the basement walls because we have a gray couch like that and now I’m getting ideas. In case you’ve been similarly inspired, here’s how you can get the look for yourself:

sofa // coffee table // chairs // side tables // rug // lamp // mirror // plant // terrarium

>> I appreciate how easy it is to find a good tufted sofa these days. I hope that trend never dies. The chairs, on the other hand, took some searching, but I got all Sherlock Holmes about it and I found some. Slipcovers or reupholstering are also an option if you can’t find any that exist in the right color. (Actually, if you’re going with pure white slipcovers are a good plan for washing purposes. Nobody goes forever without dropping food on their furniture.)

>> Let’s chat about those tables. That coffee table is something that leans a wee bit toward the midcentury end of the spectrum, but it’s not SO far over there that it won’t go with other stuff. Really, the only retro thing about it is the slightly angled legs; otherwise it’s very classic. The side tables have kind of a glam feel to them and I like that they nest! I’ve been seeing a lot of that lately and it’s like getting two tables for the price of one because you could easily drag one of them elsewhere if needed.

>> How great is that mirror? And the banker’s lamp? And the terrarium? Even though there might not be any bright color in this space, you get interest from the sparkly bits that pop up all over the place.

>> Now, I want to address that rug: I, personally, am not into the idea of a real cowhide on my floor. Yes, I eat meat and have no qualms about leather shoes, but I feel like having the actual hide around is a bit much. (I’m not into fur, either.) So, if the real thing doesn’t bother you, that’s cool, but if you’re like me and are a little… hesitant, here’s an awesome tutorial for making your own realistic faux version out of microsuede and neoprene.

I’m sold. I want to hang out in there with some white wine. Does this room convince you that neutrals are YAY? (Or, at least, not snooze-y?) How about the favorite thing game? What do you like?
