DIY Sugar Scrub Recipe

Happy Monday! It’s time for more Handmade Holidays 2014. To lay your eyeballs on all of the posts from this year, click here.

Hello, my name is Paige and I’m a member of the sugar scrub fan club. Dry winter skin got you down? Sugar scrub will make it all better. Looking for a DIY gift idea? Sugar scrub is here for you, because everybody will be excited to get one. Do you prefer a natural beauty product? Sugar scrub is made from three ingredients. I started making it myself about a year ago and this DIY mix is better than any store-bought version I’ve tried–so obviously I’m sharing the love. We can all prance around with soft princess skin together.

Here’s what you need:

— 1 1/2 cups white sugar (though you could also use brown)
— 1/2 cup olive oil
— essential oil (I used lavender, but you do you)
— bowl
— spoon
— glass jar

If you plan to make more than I did for gift-giving purposes, this recipe is easy to multiply. As long as you stick with the ratio of 3 parts sugar to 1 part oil, you’ll be fine.

First, mix the sugar and oil together in a bowl. It will look vaguely like oatmeal when you’re done.

Then, add 4-5 drops of your essential oil. I used lavender since it’s soothing, which is lovely this time of year when everybody is a total stressball, but if you’re looking for something energizing to use later, try lemon or mint instead. You can get these from Amazon or Whole Foods without spending too much.

Mix the oil into the scrub and spoon the finished product into a glass jar. Ta da! An easy gift-to-you or a regular gift to hand out to other people. (But seriously, also make some for yourself because WOW.)

What kind of DIY gifts are you making this year? Have you ever whipped up your own sugar scrub? Or gotten one as a present? I like to give these out with other pampering goodies, like a nail polish or cute handmade (not by me) soaps. Who else really digs lavender-scented items?
