Fabulous Room Friday 07.25.14

If you are as shamelessly addicted to the Real Housewives franchise like I am, then chances are you’ve noticed Real Housewives of New York’s Carole Radziwill’s fabulous Manhattan apartment. Carole is arguably one of the sanest and most stylish of the Housewives (all in all the women on the NY show have the most style compared to the others). Carole was married to Lee Radziwill’s son Anthony for several years before he unfortunately succumb to cancer. The experience of losing Anthony and her two best friends, Anthony’s cousin, John F. Kennedy, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy within a short period of time lead Carole to pen her memoir, What Remains and on this last season, Carole released her second book, The Widow’s Guide to Sex &Dating which served as a catalyst for drama and culminated in her nemesis Aviva Drescher throwing her prosthetic leg across the room at a party at Le Cirque to prove that it’s the only fake thing about her. You can’t make this stuff up, people.

Back to Carole’s apartment– she recently had it redesigned and worked with designer Wayman Robertson on the project. Carole wanted her living room to be especially sexy and inviting hence the sumptuous fabrics– the most notable of which is the amazing sofa she inherited from her mother in law, Lee Radziwill which happens to be swathed in Scalamandre’s incredible Le Tigre silk velvet. The room also features sleek tables, a pair of sculptural lamps with gold silk shades and a photograph of Marilyn Monroe from Bert Stern– the session was famously one of Marilyn’s last.

The seating configuration is conducive to entertaining which is perfect for Carole. I love that the height of the soaring ceilings is emphasized rather than played down.

For an all-out glamorous effect, Carole insisted on a ceiling clad in silver-leaf. I love this treatment on ceilings as with the right lighting, it can make a space look as though it were glowing. Under the stairs leading to the bedroom, Carole requested more seating which Robertson delivered in the shape of a curved, custom settee in what looks like gold silk velvet. The room as a whole is rather luxurious, but that amazing Lee Radziwill sofa steals the show! You can read more about the famous sofa in this post Joni recently published on Cote de Texas. Have a wonderful weekend! I am heading to Las Vegas Market tomorrow, so be sure to follow along on Instagram for some of my favorite new finds.
