Encounter the exquisite in Damariscotta this weekend

First off Friday evening, Twin Villages Artwalk, Damariscotta-Newcastle. Feature gallery for this week is The Stable Gallery on Water St. Just a short walk up from the downtown area, this expansive gallery represents upwards of 39 local artists.

Cool in the Shade by Priscilla McCandless

Paintings in oil and acrylic, jewelry incorporating metal, fused glass, and silk, as well as beautiful hand painted silk scarves can be seen. Works in wood, wool, and glass sit alongside stoneware and sculpture. It has long been one of my favorite galleries in the Midcoast area.

Next up for Saturday and Sunday is the Maine Craft Guild Show at the Lincoln County YMCA in Damariscotta. “Encounter the Exquisite” will represent crafts artists from around the state. The show is in it’s 5th year and has become a destination summer show in the area. You will have the unique opportunity to meet and visit with leading potters, jewelers, weavers, carvers, and printers, learning firsthand about their process and work.

“People come to the guild shows expecting the best work because that’s what we do,” said master woodworker and show exhibitor Tom Dahlke of Bath. “The beauty of coming to a show is that the person making the work is standing right there in front of you, you get to connect.”

“Our goal with these shows is to create a room full of ‘wow’ for the community to engage with. There is so much talent in Maine…meet the artists and take home something amazing!” said Charlie Jenkins, guild president and Dresden glass blower.

The show runs Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday from 10-4. Find directions here. Make sure to come and say Hi! I will be at the show both days.
