Toronto and Hamilton

Currently on schedule with my catch-up series, I’d love to update you on the workshops I did in Toronto and Hamilton, Canada.

Toronto was first; I found out about eweKnit through Instagram, by coincidence. Based on their images I thought it would be a beautiful shop, however I didn’t expect this much of pure yarn goodness! Their collection is of good quality, like Koigu, Madelinetosh, Malabrigo, Rowan and many more, and just makes your hands itchy for knitting and crocheting projects. When I met the lovely Claudia and Caroline, they immediately fell in love with the Summer shawl pattern from Puur Haken. The topic of the workshop was quickly chosen! At the night of the workshop the table was full and everyone successfully started their shawl; different yarns, different sizing, all with great results for one night of crocheting and chatting. I took some Koigu yarns with me when I left and really hope I will get to see that beautiful shop again. Thank you so much again Caroline and Claudia!

Next up was Hamilton; the shop Hand Knit Yarn Studio I learned through my friend Kate about a month before we moved back to The Netherlands, just over a year ago. I wrote a blog post with lots of pictures on the former creJJtion blog, if you’re interested click here. Darling Kate and Tracy who own the shop are such lovely and welcoming ladies. Also, their selection of yarns is just as impressive, because it is mostly Canadian. They introduced me to ‘the yarn hit in Canada at the moment’ Julie Asselin; high quality hand dyed yarns. They lured me into taking two skeins home, probably to become beautiful lace knitted shawls in 2034 when I have time (ahum) haha. But until then I’ll stroke this supersoft yarn regularly and just love it as skeins. I’ll post images of my pick in a couple weeks.

Anyway, I am getting distracted by yarn talk. What’s new? When I knew I was going to Canada I immediately thought of Hand Knit Yarn as to ask for a workshop with Puur Haken, and they were just as enthusiastic. We decided on the doily project as a one night project, and also to be repeated for Christmas gifts. Perfect idea! Again, the table was full and I greatly enjoyed a lovely night of crochet and chatting about yarns, moving internationally since almost everyone at the table came from somewhere else in the world, we chatted crochet rounds and stitches, ate the stroopwafels I brought and just had a fabulous night. Not one doily was finished that evening in the shop, but I think some of the girls were guilty of continuing at home in to the small hours… And it didn’t matter, since we had such a great time! Thank you again so much Tracy and Kate! Until next time xo.
