For real now, I have a decent update to share on the poncho. Just when this was slowly becoming the never-to-be-finished-poncho, it got my attention again and I started joining the first series of blocked squares. And oh my, what joy it brings!
Originally I thought to join the squares into two rectangular shapes, one front, one backside and a boat neck in between. Then I switched to thinking I would join them with one point facing down at the front and at the back. This week when I actually got them together, I decided to go with the first option.
The thought of 8 squares in a row for the width turned out to be too wide for me. Seven suits me better. And because I am very Dutch but also very not tall, 5 rows of squares from my neck down is enough. So there we go. Two rectangular shapes of 7×5 squares. Front done and joined as you can see it hanging on the couch. Backside almost half way, and I am very determined to finish it this weekend!
Bonus: when the squares are nicely blocked and joined, there actually appears a little heart in every corner. Who knew? Love this poncho already…
I am working with hook size 3.5 mm and Scheepjeswol Stonewashed yarn, colour 803 black onyx. One ball of yarn gives 5 squares. For more ideas with these squares in a smaller version, have a look here for a kids’ poncho and here for a cushion cover.
