Birthday Letter Banner With Rolled Paper Roses (With Simple Supplies!)

A birthday banner decorated with an initial letter covered in rolled paper roses will be sure to please the birthday girl (or woman) and you can whip it up with the simplest of supplies! Last week when we arrived at a lovely dairy farm in Sullivan County, New York for a family get together, I was informed that we would be celebrating my youngest niece's birthday a tad on the early side. Yikes!

Fortunately we had some craft paper, regular white paper, markers, scissors, tape and a glue stick, which is all one needs to make a simple banner like this one! It's true, tacky craft glue would have been preferable, or even a hot glue gun, but I had to make do with what we had on hand in order to create a little birthday surprise complete with decorations, cards from all the kids, and store bought cake and cupcakes decorated with washi tape flags (on account of fortunately having picked up a few rolls of washi tape the previous week!)

These simple paper roses should be a part of any crafter's repetoire, and I have used this technique quite a few times in the past, using both felt and paper. There are two ways to roll these flowers, this time I started rolling from the outside edge such that the middle of the spiral acts as a little base, the preferable method when one wants to glue these rolled roses to paper.

Check out some of my past projects using this same technique in different ways (and sizes!) below:
