Christmas in August: A Collection

What do I do when I should be cleaning my home, finishing a calligraphy project or sleeping? I search for dinnerware -- Christmas plates and tea cups in August. I do this for a few reasons: one, I am especially into setting the table, but I do not have a very vast dinnerware collection to aid in doing so; two, I really despise the summer heat and dream of snowy days, thus cooking and snuggling up inside without feeling guilty; because I love mixing patterns; and lastly, because china reminds me of my mother -- she loves dishes and has always been a collector.

A part of me is inclined to simply pick a single pattern and build it over the years; but then I have this hankering to mix several collections together and have a bit more fun with it -- even if it means building it plate by plate, saucer by saucer. I am also torn between fine bone china, porcelain and ceramic table wear -- does it have to be singular? Here is a bit of what I have been swooning over and contemplating:

1. Johnson Bros. Old Britain Castles Pink Christmas - I adore these cozy Christmas scenes and I can remember my Great Grandmother Ethel drinking her coffee from Johnson Bros. Blue and White Castle Collection -- blue and white at Christmas would also be a joy!

2. Noritake Vintage Gold Ball - need anything be said? The detail in this collection is incredible. If I were to by a single set, I would love this to be it.

3. Spode Christmas Rose - I love this floral pattern and its departure from the Christmas Tree motif; it would be great for the holiday season at large.

4. Lenox Holiday Tartan - The colors in this are the greatest appeal for me - gold and plum, ribbon tartan, and fruit.

5. Royal Stafford Christmas Home - this echoes the Johnson Bros. Pink Christmas to me, I just really appreciate sweet Christmas scenes.

6. Royal Limited Holly Holiday - A favorite because it would mix well with other pieces and also because my mother has a set of it -- nostalgic heart, guilty.

7. Noritake Gold Ball - (Repeat offender. I must like it).

8. Spode Christmas Tree - another pattern from my childhood; it reminds me of my mother.

9. Royal Albert Yultide Christmas Poinsettia - this pattern captures the quintessential Christmas palate in my mind -- would be perfect addition to a mash up of different patterns.

10. Lefton Christmas Cardinal - Cardinals, well, again remind me of my mama -- she loves birds! And we are from West Virginia, which boasts the red beauty as its state fine feathered friend.
