The Art Of The Brick

Nathan Sawaya’s amazing ‘Art Of The Brick’ exhibition which has been all over the world, has finally come to London. So I headed down on Friday, the opening day to the Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane to check it out. Nathan’ is a New York artist who creates large-scale sculptures out of LEGO bricks. I was really looking forward to seeing this exhibition as I had seen some pictures and it just looked brilliant. There are creations of ancient sculptures, paintings such as Edvard Munch’s The Scream and Van Gogh’s Starry Night, a giant T-Rex to everyday pop culture in One Direction.

What I liked the most was his own interpretations of everyday objects with real meanings behind each one. Such as the incomplete man which symbolises those days when you have given so much of yourself but you still haven’t managed to get everything done, the feeling of ‘incomplete’. I loved the bright colours, there is something so striking about the yellow man ripping open his chest full of LEGO bricks. There is lots to see and it’s really interesting to see how long each one took to build, plus read about Nathan’s journey from being a lawyer to an artist.
