1 Jelly Roll print (Fancy by Lily Ashbury)
1 Jelly Roll solid (Bella White)
4.5 yards backing (Orange Spice Twirl)
5/8 yards binding* (Golden Tatiana)
*you will have enough print strips leftover you’d like to utilize those for a scrappy binding.
Gather up your materials and let’s get started!
You need to decide which size of quilt you’d like to make:
60″ x 80″ (48 blocks)
36 White Strips
24 Prints
70″ x 70″ (49 blocks) – this is the size I made and you’ll have 3 leftover blocks
39 White Strips
26 Prints
Group your strips into piles of 3 solids 2 prints:
Sew the strips together lengthwise alternating white print white print white.
I press after stitching each strip because it makes pressing seams to the printed side easier.
Cut each strip set into 10.5″ blocks – you will get 4 blocks from each set.
(If you find your strip sets were only 10.25″ wide, go ahead and cut 10.25″ blocks. The key is consistency so your blocks are square.)
Repeat for all remaining strip sets and start laying out your blocks alternating the direction of the stripes.
60″ x 80″
Use 48 blocks laid out in 8 rows of 6 blocks
70″ x 70″
Use 49 blocks laid out in 7 rows of 7 blocks
When you are happy with your layout, start piecing them together. You can sew these together in rows or sections. What’s nice is there are no seams to match up.
Finished Quilt Size: 60″ x 80″ or 70″ x 70″
Hope you enjoyed this tutorial. I’d love to see your version if you make one!
