The June Food Diaries

Ah June, what an eventful month you've been. The main thing was my spur of the moment move up to North London, something that would have seemed alien a few months ago. It's interesting that my round-ups have gone from general Instagram fodder to just food. There's something quite carhartic about reflecting on the month just gone and I'm working out a more comprehensive way to do that (cough *You Tube*) but until then, you'll just have to make do with my meals.

Red Market

Ok so I didn't make it to Street Feast but I did discover the next best thing last Friday. There wasn't an overwhelming amount of choice at Red Market, which actually worked out well as I made my decision to try one of the Butchies fried chicken burgers pretty sharpish. Brioche buns were standard and the bacon and guacamole were welcome additions to a pretty tasty burger. The only thing I would have liked were some chips, when I eat unhealthily I like to go the whole hog and I ended up sharing one of the pulled pork buns from Bare Bones Cue with a like minded friend. Definitely worth a visit on a Friday night.

Muriel's Kitchen

This is one of those places you walk past all the time and mean to pop into (much of Soho seems to have this effect). Finally, I made it inside Muriel's Kitchen for the launch of the Loughran Gallery Art Takeover. The menu changes every month and there's plenty of healthy options in case you feel like having a break from all the burgers, so I went for the grilled salmon steak with wild rocket pesto. In lieu of chips I decided to go for the fruity spiced tabula with feta cheese. At the front you'll see much of the options laid out and it all looks rather fresh and inviting. The decor is homely but not too twee, it was tricky to get downstairs to photography well due to low light but the bathroom gets serious points for having Audrey Hepburn on the door!

Patty & Bun

It's annoying when the one reason you haven't been back to a place, is the inevitable queue outside. Ever since my first Patty & Bun visit a year ago, I've wanted to go back but a visit there needs some serious planning. For some reason I just had a random craving, so Kim headed there at the peculiar time of 3.30 and had a five minute wait for a table. This time around I went for the Hot Chic chicken burger, the sauces are what sets this place apart and with the garlic aioli, it's a bit of a party in your mouth. I definitely can't wait another year for for of this.
How was June for you foodwise? I'm hoping to include some recipes now I'm cooking for myself again and you might be able to guess that they'll involve chicken. I'm obsessed!
