Alexander Wang Does Marble Surfboards.

I always wonder, do we love or hate when things that are on the outskirts are appropriated by high fashion and then come into the mainstream. Like for example, how to the real actual granola people feel about Birkenstocks being sold at Barney’s? Do they not care at all, do they hate it – a la bitch stole my look, or do they think – oh, at least I’m finally trendy! Surf culture has always been fascinating to everyone on the outside. It’s super cool, we all know it. But I wonder what the hardcore die hard beach bums, the people who wake up at 5 am to check waves and know the rhythm of the ocean think about high end fashion adopting surf culture. I’m guessing they thing, cool, whatever dude.

Anyway, moving on. Alexander Wang teamed up with the Aussie board makers Haydenshapes to create 5 marble printed surfboards. They are digitally printed on silk and were created by Mr. Wang himself. There is also a monolithic black wave in the installation in their Soho store, in The Cage. So funny, I was actually thinking about having my own board made, custom designed or even painted by me, for aesthetic purposes. But now I just want one of these. I’m SUCH a poser. Leave it to Wang to make the sexiest board I’ve ever seen. To quote Kanye: Spendin’ Everythang on Alexander Wang. New Slaves.
