Australian photographer Russell James got his big break when he was asked to shoot Tyra Banks for her legendary Sports Illustrated cover. And he has been shooting models ever since. Every year he is asked to go behind the scenes at one of the most anticipated fashion show of the year: Victoria’s Secret. Tough gig! He gets spontaneous photos of the angels preparing, getting hair and makeup, and just blowing off some steam minutes before they throw their wings on and strut their stuff. (Every season I get to shoot Rosie Assoulin’s shows backstage, and they are literally the most fun days of my career. This season the photos kinda went viral!) James is famous for more than just his fashion photography. His fine art project entitled Nomad Two Worlds, is a series inspired by the global consequences of cultural collision. He collaborates with loads of indigenous artists to create a global example of true collaboration across deep cultural divides.
