DIY Speech Bubble Magnets Tutorial

With everything I’ve had going on lately, it’s been way too long since I’ve been able to post a new project. I’m so glad to be back to making tutorials, starting with these speech bubble magnets. They’re really easy, but would make a great gift packaged up with a few pieces of chalk or a chalk pen

. As you can see, I’ve already had too much fun thinking up silly conversations between photos on my fridge. I bet they’d also work super well with a strip of pictures from a photo booth.

Materials:
Wood speech bubbles (I found mine at Michaels)
Chalkboard paint (I used FolkArt Chalkboard Paint

)
Fine-grit sandpaper (I used 400-grit, but 300 would probably be fine)
Paintbrush
Glue (I used E6000

)
Magnets
Chalk
Small container for paint
Cloth

Methods:
1. Lightly sand the side of the speech bubble that you plan to paint. Wipe off the dust with a damp cloth.

2. Paint the wood according to the instructions on your bottle of paint. I did three coats, drying an hour between each coat, and letting it cure for 24 hours after the final coat.

3. Glue a magnet onto the back of each wooden bubble. I glued mine on slightly below center, so that they’d be in a better position to hold up photos. Let the glue dry.

3. With the side of a piece of chalk, coat the surface of your magnet with a layer of chalk, and wipe off with a cloth or paper towel. It’s now ready for your own messages!
